a picture that describes my inner struggle

Guess who usually wins?

Monday, October 22, 2007

In a moment of poor willpower (this one being ‘the weekend’) Jeremy and I indulged in deep fried mars bars. Oh. My. I can’t decide if I simply must have a deep fryer now or if it’s too dangerous. I can see it now – deep fried apples, yogurt, hot dogs. I would probably deep fry a spoon to eat deep fried ice cream.

It’s just so darn yummy.

I think I’ll stick with the occasional treat of deep fried goodness; this way I actually have to get off my ass and go get something. Unless I order in from C’est Bon, then I just have to get my ass to the door. Or send Jeremy. Well either way, lifting my arm to point to the door is exercise right?

the ex part 2

Went to the Ex this weekend. FUN. Jeremy and I were joined by my Mum, Dad, Gran and 2 out of 3 sisters (ain’t bad). We didn’t do any rides but we ate a lot of food. Namely deep fried Mars bars but there was some other stuff too. I had Goat Roti. Yummers. I think besides buying lots of stuff my favourite part was the Superdogs…I want a puppy so badly now! I haven’t really stopped talking about it since. Jeremy keeps saying no but the other day there was this amazingly cute baby on TV and I told him I would actually rather have a baby than a puppy. After he regained consciousness he looked aghast at me then changed the subject. That oughta get me a dog. Ha!

Now if you all remember the
last time Jeremy and I were at the Ex he felt the need to spend hundreds of dollars to get a stuffed animal (which we never ended up getting). He was adamant not to repeat the same process this year. So we looked at the games, enjoying the sights and sounds, not intending to waste a penny on such flimflammery when lo and behold – he spots the birthday game.

“Surely we at least have to play the birthday game!”

I sigh, “Sure it’s only two bucks, what’s the harm…”

So we slap down our toonies and Jeremy rolls the dice….JANUARY. I was so excited! I kept hopping up and down and clapping, the booth operator was broadcasting my movements to the crowd, trying to drum up business. I chose a Stewie doll. Very cute. I’m sure that’s not how you thought that story would end but I am wickedly sneaky that way. You must be on your toes you see.

Anyway I had a wonderful day of food, fun and exciting spectacles with my dear family. Well done CNE. Well done.

i can cook

I may not be a gourmet cook or one who can make a meal fit for a king but I am a good cook. A simple if somewhat careless cook.

For our anniversary a few years back I made Jeremy din, including these crab & cream cheese wontons that were just delish. My specialty in University was hangover foods. An egg on English muffin breakfast sandwich, finely grated asiago cheese.so yummy. Or a baked potato with melted cheddar, sour cream and green onions a popular dish. Many mornings after a night out I would make one of these for all the people who passed out in our house. Sometimes I didnt even know them (some treat someone had picked up from the bar no doubt). But they got breakfast. For Mothers Day din at the pseudo in-laws I made delicious honey dijon deviled eggs and I ruined NOT A SINGLE EGG in the process. They were perfection - things of beauty, though I used a bag to fill them and subsequently they slightly resembled poops. As you can see.

But I digress.

For some reason Jeremy has gotten it into his head that I am a terrible cook who could burn water. Maybe its because when we started dating this time around I only ate takeout or was drunk most evenings and probably ruined a few meals. Who knows. So far I am barred from cooking dinner for us, which is okay as Jeremy is a good cook. However I am sick of doing the dishes. And I do miss cooking. Ill just have to strong-arm my way back into the kitchen. Well more likely sneak. Ill start with baking because I think Jeremy will find that less threatening. Ill slowly embed myself as a regular part of the kitchen until hes used to my presence, like they do with gorillas and such in their natural habitat. Then one day BAM, Ill be using the George Foreman grill. Mark my words. I will grill.

taste of the danforth

On Saturday I went to the Taste of the Danforth with Jeremy. It was disgustingly packed, it took us forever just to get out of Pape station. I was getting seriously anxious and agitated being in the crowd - I wanted to just barrel through them to get some breathing room. Jer pretended I wasn't cranky and acted like he was having the best time so eventually I got into the spirit of things.
We ate a ton.
Here's the list(in order of consumption):

  • Lamb Rosemary Pie
  • Fresh Fruit Crepes
  • Spinach Pie
  • Lamb Chops
  • Grilled Shrimp Kebob
  • Steamed Mussels Marinara
  • Freshly Squeezed Lemonade

Quite the belly buster I must say. I love food festivals.

just as I thought...

Well dinner was awesome. Mashed potatoes and red wine galore. Speaking of wine - the embarrassing conversations were at an all time high, I truly outdid myself. No board games tho, we were all too bloated for that. The highlight of my night was when I actually took out my garbage. My apartment seems SO much bigger now! I should really make a habit of that.

survey and wednesday dinner

So I took the survey that's on Maria's blog today. Mine is on my diaryland account, tho technically it's not a quiz.

So it's wednesday - this means good food (specifically mashed potatoes), board games and embarrassing conversations. That's right......it's dinner with Jer's family. I love starting new traditions, don't you?

mashed potatoes......what else.

On Sunday Jer managed to drag me out of my apartment to go for dinner. We went to The Artful Dodger. He got a philly melt and I got fish and chips but with mashed potatoes instead of fries. I asked for extra mashed potatoes, no matter the cost, and extra tartar sauce. The waitress said I ate like her, I was pleased. When they brought me my food there was a mountainous pile of potatoes smothered in gravy. I was in love. She said if I managed to eat all that I'd get a prize. Jer looked at her like she'd just said the most hilarious thing he'd ever heard and replied 'oh that's nothing'. I easily ate them all and when the bill came they hadn't charged me for the extra potatoes. I guess that was my prize. Check out my review, I'm the only one who left one so far, how exciting, tho in my fervor I misspelled potatoes. How embarrassing. Anyhoo, I'll definitely be going back for more.

what fun

What a great weekend! It kicked off with an elephant sighting Saturday morning. Outside my window. Right on Yonge street. Wicked. Then it was hours of car ride fun with Jer's family as we journeyed for fresh fruit. I won't go into detail, but one of the highlights of the ride (for me, anyway) was the official naming of my bum - Sparky Abner. I quite like it. Maybe I'll tattoo it on there.

Anyhoo, after that it was on to Jen's for dinner. Oh man. I could eat a bucket of the seafood dip she made , DELISH! So Maria, Jen, Jeremy and I sat around drinking and stuffing our faces. We didn't make it thru the whole planned meal, there were four more courses. It was a lot of fun, we even got some pictures....

Yesterday was lazy day. We went to see Spider-man 2, so good by the way, and after that laid around watching Family Guy and that's it. Awesome.

free meal and something annoying

I went to Cafe Volo last night, a client treated me to dinner. If you know me at all you know I am not one of those people who orders salad when someone else is paying. Tho I did only get bruschetta, I tried a new kind of wine. I would never pay that much myself so I figured what the heck. It was great.

On another note, I try not to get to annoyed when this happens but I usually fail. I get into the elevator this morning with someone and they're going to a floor above mine. So I think sweet, a smooth uninterrupted elevator ride. Then the thing stops halfway to my floor and some dink gets on and presses the button to get off one floor up. This happens quite a bit. These people can't walk up one flight of stairs? C'mon.

Mashed potatoes and NTN

Man do I ever LOVE NTN. And mashed potatoes. Last night I had both at the Flatiron and they were great. I went with Jen; Maria ended up meeting us there and all three of us played. Smurf, Puma and Clara on the prowl. What a formidable sight. I saw my name up there a few times but as the beer flowed my brain cells went with it.
