din at the city grill

Margaret took me out to dinner last night, because I stayed late and helped her set up her new copier/scanner thingy. We went to the City Grill. We split four appetizers, mainly seafood and I drank red wine. Ah the decadence of the city. Tonight is dinner at the in-laws so that'll make two great dinners in one week. I'm so spoiled. I wonder if i'll score any free lunches this week. Or maybe some mashed potato leftovers. Hint hint.

hero in the beaches

Went to see Hero this weekend - wow. It is quite possibly the most romantic movie I have ever seen. Of course Jet Li was awesome but Tony Leung (whom I also love) was amazing, I love him even more than I did before. It was subtitled not dubbed, which is great, You get so much more out of a movie when in it's native tongue. You simply must see this in the theatre, it has the most stunning images. It's definately a movie full of eye-candy, and I don't just mean the actors.
I saw it in the beaches with Jer. Man I love going to his house, it's like getting out of town for the weekend. Cozy.

Miguel's new gig

I must give congrats to Miguel, he is the new image consultant for the lottery girl at City TV. He gets to decide everything about her look - clothes, make-up, hair, etc. I'm going to watch to see the miraculous change in her next month.

p.s - this is hilarious....

little blue cow

In response to Maria's entry today I argue that the cow on the Olympic Milk commercials IS a blue cow. The whole campaign is about them trying to get you to identify with the cow logo on the milk carton. So the milk carton is white and I'm betting blue is the only colour ink they use. In actuality it's a clear cow outlined in blue with some blue spots. As blue is the only colour on there I think it's fair to call her the 'little blue cow'. I guess on the commercials they fill her in with white so as not to freak people out. Think of the commercial - if you could see other runners/swimmers etc, or the audience thru the cow , you probably wouldn't get a craving for milk. Maybe water if anything.

cool day for men in tights

It's a shame about the whole Kyle Shewfelt thing. Sure I wanted him to get the bronze but I'm not in an uproar or anything. Tho the other fellow did fall - badly - on the second vault. I guess that's the thing with judged sports, there will always be disputes. Anway can I just say I'm loving the weather today. The walk to work was cool and borderline brisk. I love that temperature that's just a tad above chilly. I can't wait till September.

down on the farm

So this weekend was a spectacular success. Jer was a hit, most especially for my three year old niece, who was riding on his back and kissing him on the cheek after 15 minutes of meeting him. We discovered that KT and Jer share an obsession with cheesecakes. What I feel for mashed potatoes these two feel for cheesecake. Wow eh? On Saturday night myself, Jenna, Jer and my brother-in-law stayed up till two in the morning playing password - this is definitely something we are buying to bring to Jer's parents, it's very lively. Anyway it was an educational experience for Jeremy; he saw his first hummingbird and bee, and held his first snake. I was amazed. I think the fact that my little niece was holding it with no fear prodded him along slightly. Ooh I also introduced him to jewel-weed, I just showed him one of the pods and told him to touch it. When he did the thing sprang apart and he jumped a foot in the air and cursed soundly. I had so much fun myself, I had my pants rolled up to my knees and went barefoot the whole time. I had a great poking stick that I used to flush out snakes, well, tried to anyway. Just another wonderful weekend in the country.

home sweet home

I'm going to my parents this weekend. Actually I'm dragging Jer with me and forcing him to meet my entire family. And I mean the entire family. Aunts, uncles, cousins - the whole nine yards. It'll be great. We're going to the zoo. If I find time I'll post from there and tell you all about it.

Oh and by the by I put some more stuff up in ...a work in progress.... if you're interested.

panties

Miguel got an invite to this press lunch for the Canadian launch of JLo lingerie. He wasn't in the office so he needed me to open the invite and give him the info over the phone. The Invitation took the form of a pair of pink panties with a rhinestone JLo on them and a card attached. These things are great! I was like 'ah they're so pretty' and he said I could keep them. I now own JLo underwear. I feel so bling bling.

the duke and ...a work in progress....

So no Wednesday dinner last night, Denise was working and hence Jer and I had to fend for ourselves. Well rather he fended for me as he took me out to dinner at the duke. Man I love that place. I had Joe balls again and potato skins. You can see my system was all geared up for potatoes. Jer got a chip butty, it's basically a french fry sandwich. It was delish. So essentially we ate a pound of potatoes for dinner. Did I mention Jer also got curry fries?

So, you may or may not have noticed that there is a new link in my links section to the right. ...a work in progress.... is a new blog I started where I will just put poetry and prose that I have written in the past and new stuff as it comes along. This daily blogging has definitely been working my creative muscles so I'm taking it a step further and getting back to fiction and poetry and whatnot. It won't be updated as frequently as this one; as of yet I just put up two poems that I happened to have at with me at work so I plugged them in there. I'm going to dig up some short stories I've written and maybe even put in an excerpt from a romance novel I want to finish someday. Don't worry there's nothing naughty there. At least not yet.

-p.s. I did ton of quizzes and such yesterday. I found out what my Harry Potter patronus is. Check out quirks and such...the land of quiz results.

Hayley

Hayley is staying me with again, to continue the job hunt. I can't tell you what a pleasure she is to have around the house. When I got home from work yesterday she had cleaned my apartment AND fridge. I was in heaven. Tonight she is going to do my laundry. Yeah I know. Amazing. I do have to share my wine tho. I figure it's the least I could do.

olympics - it was bound to come up sooner or later

I think I have Olympic fever. I watch nothing else. True I don't get much else but still - I'm devoted. Last night I was half-heartedly watching the TV while reading a book, but when men's gymnastics came on I was riveted. It's my favourite event, I think because of Vitaly Sherbo. I saw some fellow from Japan do the most perfect landing off the vault I've ever seen.

Jer also got me into the synchrodiving, when we went to lunch at the duke the other day he kept running inside to watch bits and pieces of it. Y'know I hadn't given the Olympics much thought until I had lunch with Maria and she was totally freaking out about the opening ceremony. In a good way. I guess I caught the bug from her and then after watching some events with Jer - judge supreme - I was hooked.

beauty pageant

Jer and I went with his sisters, Hayley and Rebecca, to the Miss Universe® Canada Preliminary competition on Sunday. It was great. My favourite girl, Sangeet, made it to the top seven and also got Miss Congeniality award. Jer is being extremely smug as five of his picks made it to the top twelve and four of those went on to the top seven. He really needs to get into the pageant circuit. I’ll see what I can do.

movies and pubs

Jer kidnapped me to see Alien Vs. Predator on Friday. It actually wasn't bad. Sure there were some corny moments but the story was great and the action very entertaining. I would see it again. one aspect of the movie reminded me of a FABULOUS movie called Cube which had a sequel called Hypercube. These are two amazing movies which I highly recommend. In fact I'll bring them one Wednesday to the in-law's. After a disappointing meal at he flatiron on Friday I was hesitant to try a new pub Saturday afternoon, but Jer refused to bring me food and made me get presentable and venture into the world. He said 'you didn't move to Toronto to sit in your apartment.' I hate it when he's right. We went to the Duke of Gloucester. Wowee. Nothing on the menu topped 9.25 and they had deep fried mars bars. If you've never had this - do so now. Drop whatever you're doing and run out to the Duke to procure some. They also had 'Joe balls' which are basically mashed potato balls with sour cream. Can you say 'Clara'? They have this hidden rooftop patio that is nestled between buildings and everyone there had a Scottish or English accent. My only complaint is that they wouldn't let me substitute mashed potatoes for the french fries that came with my club sandwich. And they offer them with other dishes. Ah well. Jer ate his bowl of Irish stew and then proceeded to clean my plate , he also bussed our table himself so I think they love him there. It's also one block from my apartment so I'll be going back.

the armchair torontonian

I woke up at 4:45 this morn so I popped on Galaxy Quest. Do I ever love this movie! I was laughing so hard I'm sure I woke my neighbours. I think I'll watch it again tonight. So it's Friday - YAHOO - and it's about damn time. It's been a hectic week. My weekend is actually pretty busy too, at least for me, but I guess that's the reason I moved to the big city; there's always something going on. I usually just like to see it going on tho, I don't actually want it going on me.

the amazing magic robot

Last night was so much fun. Maria was a huge success, she usually is so that's nothing new. I'm gonna have to bring her with me everywhere - the ultimate party favour. Anyway aside from becoming painfully full of potatoes (what else is new), I played The Amazing Magic Robot game. Man there are like a million different versions of this game. It's great, but it made me realize how much more kids were expected to know in the 40's. I feel that I learned more about processes than actual facts in school, and by school I mean from kindergarten to 3rd year university. And by processes I mean telling people what they want to hear. Ah well.

At least I know how to make a footnote. No wait, I can't. But I can do endnotes.

high score

Hayley cleaned my apartment while she was staying with me. Can I tell you how much I love this woman. I've actually been cleaning up after myself, y'know now that it's nice. Anyway for tomorrow's Wednesday dinner I'm bringing Maria to meet the in-laws. It'll be a hoot. I'll have to bring Hayley sometime too.

So - last night Maria 'twisted my arm' and made me go to the flatiron with her. Actually she said 'I'm paying' so naturally I went. She even bought me mashed potatoes and gravy. Delish. While we were playing
NTN I saw a woman walk by with the EXACT same purse as me. The pub is underground so we see everyone as they walk by. Maria has a special 'hot guy' alert for cuties that walk by.
Do do do do do do. Something like that. It keeps her from yelling ' wow he's hot' at passersby. Anyway I made it into the high scores last night. I was number ten mind you and soon got pushed off the list (by Maria) but I was thrilled to see my name up there (when it was just Maria and I playing I beat her).

taste of the danforth

On Saturday I went to the Taste of the Danforth with Jeremy. It was disgustingly packed, it took us forever just to get out of Pape station. I was getting seriously anxious and agitated being in the crowd - I wanted to just barrel through them to get some breathing room. Jer pretended I wasn't cranky and acted like he was having the best time so eventually I got into the spirit of things.
We ate a ton.
Here's the list(in order of consumption):

  • Lamb Rosemary Pie
  • Fresh Fruit Crepes
  • Spinach Pie
  • Lamb Chops
  • Grilled Shrimp Kebob
  • Steamed Mussels Marinara
  • Freshly Squeezed Lemonade

Quite the belly buster I must say. I love food festivals.
